Students in the ES Senior Research Seminar won the 2005 Adams County Environmental Stewardship Award for their project on the social and ecological impacts of sprawl in South-central Pennsylvania. In the project, advised by ES Professor Randy Wilson, students assessed the impacts of a proposed subdivision development, then developed an alternative design following green planning principles. Students included Jessa Berna, Stuart Brown, Emily Chessin, David Conrad, Caroline Kramer, Samantha Linton, Edward Morales, Lauren Rapoza, Josette Wiggins, and Andrew Ziegler. The award included citations from the Pennsylvania State Senate and House of Representatives.
Six ES students went on to present this research at the 12th International Symposium on Society and Resource Management, held in Vancouver, Canada in June 2006. At the conference, the students received the Runner-Up Award for Best Research Poster (see photo).
