Brian Kelley’s On the Fence wins national CINE Golden Eagle Award.

Brian Kelley has won the prestigious CINE Golden Eagle Award for On the Fence, a film he directed and produced as part of his senior thesis in Environmental Studies at Gettysburg College.  The CINE Golden Eagle Awards are given for excellence in professional, independent and student filmmaking and are recognized internationally as symbols of the highest standards in film and television production.

Brian Kelley graduated in spring 2010. His film On the Fence, about wildlife-human conflict issues in Botswana was part of a year-and-a-half long senior thesis project conducted with Environmental Studies Professor Salma Monani and Film Studies Professor Jim Udden.  He is now a master’s student at American University’s Environmental Film Program, and continues to refine and develop his filmmaking talents.  He is off to Galapagos for a video production class in an upcoming semester, and is planning a summer internship in South America.

Since its founding in 1957, CINE has been dedicated to honoring emerging and established talent in film, television and new media.  Brian Kelley now joins a remarkable list of CINE Golden Eagle Award-winning filmmakers, and like Brian, many of them received recognition from CINE early in their careers.  Ron Howard was a teenager when he won his CINE Golden Eagle; Robert Zemeckis, a film student; Steven Spielberg, a promising director; Mike Nichols, a young comic; Ken Burns, a budding documentarian; and John Lasseter, a pioneering animator whose Pixar Animation Studios was then in its infancy.

Brian Kelley’s film is now a nominee for the CINE Award of Excellence, given to CINE’s top student film of 2010.  The Award of Excellence will be presented at CINE’s 2011 Awards Gala next Spring in Washington, D.C.
